About the Story
On January 31, 2014, Roger Neumaier's retirement gave him the opportunity to follow his lifetime ambition to become an author. In addition to writing fiction, he began a journal of poems intended to reflect the world around him.
The resulting series of poems ended up reflecting a period full of personal loss, challenges and necessary change. The poetry journal tells a story. But instead of following a plot-line, the cumulative arc of its poems tracks Neumaier’s recognition and acceptance of changes and challenges as well as his growing understanding of the world around him. Poetry and Reflection ends up straddling a line between personal philosophy and poetry.
Neumaier did not read through the poems in this journal until October of 2022. What he saw in the poems then, in addition to a series of perspectives on the world around him, was the poetic progression of his life. The poems are presented in the order they were written.
